Director of Youth Ministry - Full-Time Position

Come join the Los Gatos United Methodist Church, a reconciling 550 member congregation for an exciting and challenging opportunity as Director of Youth Ministries.  You will partner with the Senior Pastor, the Youth Council, parents and staff in encouraging and enabling individuals to become followers of Jesus Christ, who live Gods love in the world.  You will work with the leadership council to plan, implement and participate in a comprehensive Christian program of Youth Ministry activities for Junior and Senior High youths (roughly 50 currently) including: Sunday school programs, youth group meetings, weekend retreats, conferences, service projects, mission trips and fund raising events. Strong communication and relationship skills will be needed to relate to multiple constituencies to encourage adult member of LGUMC to become youth leaders and Sunday school teachers, and to grow the size and scope of the program.

Job Description:

Community United Methodist Church of Half Moon Bay is seeking a Director of Music.  We worship in a blended style with an average of 175 people at our 10am Sunday Service.  Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the congregations music ministries including: 

  • Direct the 30-member Chancel Choir for our 10am Sunday worship service.
  • Coordinate with and support our paid pianist/accompanist.
  • Coordinate with and support the volunteer leaders of the Youth Praise Band, Bell Choir, and Childrens Choir.
  • Integrate soloists and various instrumental musicians into the music ministry
  • Working with the Pastor, Ministry Staff, and volunteers to plan creative worship experiences for the weekly services and special holiday events and services.
  • Coordinate music ministries technical needs with A.V. technicians.
  • Vision and develop new music ministries in consultation with the Pastor and Ministry Staff.

 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead and draw people into joyful music and worship experiences.
  • Ability to organize, communicate, and work on a team.
  • B.A. or B.F.A. degree in music or related major, or significant Christian music leadership experience
  • Musical experience in all styles of worship is required.  A heart for serving God and a desire to produce the highest quality music for Gods glory are essential.

This is a part-time position (15-20 hours per week).

Youth Director at Asbury United Methodist Church in Livermore, California

Asbury seeks a Director of Youth Ministry. The youth ministry spans from 7th grade to college. Position is half to full time depending on applicant's gifts, needs and goals.

Youth Director will lead the Asbury youth to grow in faith, to celebrate community, and to serve others with love. Currently, Asbury has an active youth program with over 25 active youth at the middle school and high school level, and numerous adult volunteers. Duties include:
Youth Ministry: Shepherd youth to God; shape a ministry that:
·         Enables the youth to get to know and love God
·         Engages the youth in the Church as an integral part of Asbury
Program vision: Provide a vision for the youth program
·         Christian education: set goals, research and purchase curriculum
·         Mission: develop a framework for youth mission
·         Fellowship: enable Christian fellowship
·         Articulate the program vision to the youth and their parents
Management: (Identify and enable) Recruit, train and manage volunteers
·         Oversee High School and Middle School Sunday School program
·         Recruit teachers
·         Maintain attendance records
·         Oversee Confirmation Class
·         Oversee Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF—high school youth group)
·         Oversee Christian Adventurers (CAs—middle school youth group)
·         Oversee youth mission trips; and fundraising
·         Run monthly Youth Council meetings (meet with volunteers to offer support, spiritual growth and program coordination)
·         Plan and manage a budget of approximately $7000
Communication:
·         Update and maintain youth related pages of church website; engage in other forms of social networking to engage the youth; contribute to the Asbury Articles newsletter
·         Work closely and cooperatively with the pastors, the Director of Children’s Ministry and the church secretary; attend staff meetings twice a month
·         Attend (or send a representative) Church Council meetings.
Personal growth:
·         Maintain contact with other youth workers in the El Camino Real District and the Northern California-Nevada Conference
·         Keep current with youth ministry developments through annual conferences (such as the National Youth Workers Convention) and through publications (such as Group Magazine)
 
A commitment of at least 1 year is expected for this position. In this position, the individual will need to become acquainted with the personalities of the young adults under his or her supervision, become acquainted with the parents of the students, and be prepared to be deal with the emotional and spiritual needs of these students.

Director of Lifespan Ministries

Introduction and Description

The Director of Lifespan Ministries is a full-time program position at the Pocatello First United Methodist Church.  The job of the Director, in close collaboration with the Pastor and other staff, is to create and develop new programs for youth and families with a broad spectrum of interests and needs.   The Director of Lifespan Ministries will work with all ages and generations in the Pocatello UMC using entrepreneurial skills to develop new programs for a variety of ministries that are self-sustaining. The job portfolio includes direction of the youth ministry program. Beginning date is immediate, subject to negotiation. Position to remain open until filled.

 

I. General Qualifications

  • A commitment to the Christian faith and lifestyle, and familiarity with United Methodist beliefs and polity.
  • Experience working with children, youth and adults in a program-driven church.
  • Relevant education and training in a related field (Christian ministry, Christian education, Education, Outdoor ministry, etc).
  • A self-starter, able to initiate new ministries.
  • Understand the necessity for a vital ministry of volunteers.
  • Experience in youth ministry.

II. Responsibilities

  • Create and sustain, in coordination with the standing program committees of the church, new programs that involve the life of the church. 
  • Participate in the Christian Education and Fellowship and Evangelism Committees.
  • Recruit volunteers and develop a sustainable volunteer corps of lay leadership.
  • Worship and share occasional worship leadership in the Pocatello First United Methodist Church.
  • Assist with planning and directing family and Christian education events.
  • Develop a cadre of adults to work with youth as chaperones and leaders.
  • Recruit volunteers and work with them to develop multi-generational and multi-interest family ministry groups. 

III. Relationships and Supervision

  • The Senior Pastor is the supervisor of the Director of Lifespan Ministries and will meet regularly for brainstorming, visioning and supervision.
  • The Director of Lifespan Ministries will attend meetings of the Children’s Education Committee and the Fellowship and Evangelism Committees. 
  • The Director of Lifespan Ministries will attend meetings of the Administrative Council.
  • There will be an annual review performed by the Pastor and a member of the SPRC. That review will be forwarded to the SPRC for their information and/ or action.
  • IV. Remuneration and Benefits
  • This is a full-time position with a salary negotiable based upon experience. Health benefits will be provided for the employee only.  Two weeks paid vacation is provided. 
  • Continuing education funds may be available at the discretion of the SPRC.
  • This job is “at will.”  The church may terminate contract at any time for any reason. 
  • The Director of Lifespan Ministries is responsible for giving 4 weeks notice before voluntarily terminating this position.
  • Consult the Policies and Procedures Manual for grievance procedures.
  • The Director of Lifespan Ministries (along with all positions in the Pocatello United Methodist Church) is covered by Workman’s Compensation Insurance.
