Asbury seeks a Director of Youth Ministry. The youth ministry spans from 7th grade to college. Position is half to full time depending on applicant's gifts, needs and goals.
Youth Director will lead the Asbury youth to grow in faith, to celebrate community, and to serve others with love. Currently, Asbury has an active youth program with over 25 active youth at the middle school and high school level, and numerous adult volunteers. Duties include:
Youth Ministry: Shepherd youth to God; shape a ministry that:
· Enables the youth to get to know and love God
· Engages the youth in the Church as an integral part of Asbury
Program vision: Provide a vision for the youth program
· Christian education: set goals, research and purchase curriculum
· Mission: develop a framework for youth mission
· Fellowship: enable Christian fellowship
· Articulate the program vision to the youth and their parents
Management: (Identify and enable) Recruit, train and manage volunteers
· Oversee High School and Middle School Sunday School program
· Recruit teachers
· Maintain attendance records
· Oversee Confirmation Class
· Oversee Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF—high school youth group)
· Oversee Christian Adventurers (CAs—middle school youth group)
· Oversee youth mission trips; and fundraising
· Run monthly Youth Council meetings (meet with volunteers to offer support, spiritual growth and program coordination)
· Plan and manage a budget of approximately $7000
Communication:
· Update and maintain youth related pages of church website; engage in other forms of social networking to engage the youth; contribute to the Asbury Articles newsletter
· Work closely and cooperatively with the pastors, the Director of Children’s Ministry and the church secretary; attend staff meetings twice a month
· Attend (or send a representative) Church Council meetings.
Personal growth:
· Maintain contact with other youth workers in the El Camino Real District and the Northern California-Nevada Conference
· Keep current with youth ministry developments through annual conferences (such as the National Youth Workers Convention) and through publications (such as Group Magazine)
A commitment of at least 1 year is expected for this position. In this position, the individual will need to become acquainted with the personalities of the young adults under his or her supervision, become acquainted with the parents of the students, and be prepared to be deal with the emotional and spiritual needs of these students.
