Administrative Assistant (record and data management)

The California-Nevada Annual Conference Center is currently seeking an Administrative Assistant to be a part of the Districts Administration Center Team. The Districts Administration Center Team is responsible for administrative support for Superintendents of the California-Nevada Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. All positions involve daily interaction with pastors and laity of the 370 plus churches and ministry sites of the conference. Though team members have an area of special emphasis, each team member is a primary contact representing the office of the Superintendent to the conference and the public.

Essential functions:

• Primary team member responsible for maintenance of district database fields and electronic personnel records within confidentiality guidelines

• Responsible for working with superintendents, churches and pastors in order to obtain current data to meet deadlines.

• Works with conference executive and technical support staff in coordination of electronic data management functions

• Provide administrative support for superintendents of the California-Nevada Annual Conference

• Work closely with district superintendents in development, dissemination and processing communication and reports from pastors and churches

• Under the direction of the Center coordinator and the superintendents receive, refer and response to potentially complex and sensitive inquiries from pastors, church members and the public. Ability to exercise good judgment and discreetly handle confidential and sensitive matters.

• Maintain essential records and information regarding pastors, churches and district activities, committees, boards and agencies.

• Provide information, support and appropriate referral to pastors, churches and district boards and agencies.

• Write letters, reports and other correspondence on behalf of the superintendents

• Research information and resources to support the mission of the annual conference

• Work collaboratively with a variety of persons and positions throughout the Annual Conference

• Support the hospitality, inclusiveness, compassion and mission of The United Methodist Church


Qualifications:

• Demonstrated excellence in management of personnel and data base file systems.

• Demonstrated excellence in working in a complex setting with public contact involving persons of diverse language, culture, heritage and education levels.

• Proven excellence in team based, fast paced work settings. Solid competence in computer skills including Microsoft Office based application.

• Requires a college degree and 2-4 years of related experience.

• Excellent English verbal and writing skills.

• Flexibility in work style and good judgment reflected in discretion, work setting respect and clear, sensitive communication practices.

• Perform other duties as assigned or requested

• Familiarity with the United Methodist Church or other faith traditions a plus

2012 General Conference Worship & Music Director - Tampa, Florida

The Worship & Music Director of General Conference is responsible for the overall worship and music program management at General Conference. The Director is responsible to the Commission on the General Conference and keeps the Commission informed through the Business Manager.

The expectations of the Worship & Music Director are as follows:
 
1.    Lead hymn singing in the plenary sessions. (In the past, this has included solo performances by the Worship & Music Director, but is not required.)
 
2.    Work with the Council of Bishops Worship Committee and assigned staff from the General Board of Discipleship in planning the worship services at General Conference.
 
3.    Audition and choose the choirs that perform at General Conference. Work with the Business Manager and the Plenary Director around any arrangements that need to be made in the Convention Center for choirs. (Please note that General Conference provides no financial support for choirs performing at General Conference.)
 
4.    Consult with the Plenary Director around any audio-visual or staging needs in the Convention Center.
 
5.    Present at General Conference from April 24, 2012 through May 4, 2012, plus setup and tear down as necessary. Also participates in meetings of the Commission on General Conference: April 25-29, 2011 (Tampa, FL).
 
There is a modest honorarium of $8,000 for the Worship & Music Director. Transportation, housing, and food are paid through submission of expense reports to the Business Manager of General Conference. The budget for the worship and music program (including all travel expenses and honorarium) is $75,000.

Part Time Jurisdictional DMYP Worker

The Division on Ministries with Young People is seeking an individual to work part time (60%) in each of the jurisdictions for an initial period of one year (non-benefitted), with the possibility of moving to a permanent part time position following the initial period.

These persons are responsible for developing relationships, identifying needs, and working with youth, young adult, and adult leaders on jurisdictional, conference, district, and local church levels to grow leaders for more effective ministries with young people throughout the connection. Director of Youth Ministry
