'The Church Has Left the Building'

The faithful of St. Paul's UMC in Reno took to the streets and playgrounds on Saturday, April 24 (2010) for "Change The World" weekend.  "Unfortunately, I set the bar too low," confesses Pastor Pat Leamy.

"I was hoping for 30 volunteers to work on one local elementary school but that didn't happen. We had 73 sign up for the project and I had to scramble to find another school for the overflow crew. All in all, we donated a total of 210 hours of service to two schools on Saturday. Ironically, one of the two schools  was vandalized with graffiti the night before, but we were able to paint over the graffiti before it was dry.

"Members gathered at the church for lunch, along with the community volunteers, and thanks to local businesses we gave away 25 gift certificates as a way of saying 'thanks for giving yourself away to your community.' Did I mention that all volunteers wore bright green t-shirts that identified St. Paul's UMC-Reno with the words 'THE CHURCH HAS LEFT THE BUILDING'?"
